I am Mr. Tom Loughran and I am very excited to join SAFA and the Year 6 team for the 2022-23 academic year. I look forward to getting to know all of my class.
After completing a BSc Hons in Zoology at Manchester University, I then undertook a PGCE in Primary Education at Edge hill University – graduating in 2015. Since then, I have built up my experience as an educator and I am looking forward to bringing what I have learnt to SCS this year. I enjoy being active and keeping fit; I regularly go to the gym and I am a member of a running club. I have also played football and gaelic football competitively since childhood, although I don’t think I’m quite as good as I used to be! I also really enjoy reading and try to make sure I find time to read as often as possible. I like to try new things and to challenge myself so I am really looking forward to embracing life in Dubai following my move.
This upcoming academic year will be my eighth as a primary teacher and my first at Safa. I have spent the last seven years teaching in the UK, beginning by gaining a wide range of experience across all year groups before settling in Year 6 for the past few years. During my time as a teacher I have taken on roles leading: computing, student leadership and as part of the maths leadership team. I believe that children should enjoy learning and try to ensure my teaching is fun and engaging for all pupils. I have high expectations and ensure that all children in my class are challenged to further their understanding while creating a safe environment for trying new things, making mistakes and talking through problems. I can’t wait to meet everyone and begin our journey together.
