Hi, my name is Sarah Nijjar and I am head of the Geography department at Safa. I am from County Durham in the North East of England. I began my teaching career as a Geography specialist in 2010.
I then became programme leader for Geography and lead teacher for Travel and Tourism. I spent 4 years teaching in England before moving to Dubai. Outside of school, I enjoy reading, travelling and going to the gym. I have a passion for music and dance and in my younger days I performed in many dance shows and competitions.
I joined Safa in August 2019 as a Geography and Social Studies teacher, before becoming head of the Geography department in October 2019. Previously, I had been teaching at Jumeirah College since 2015 as a Geography and History teacher. In 2017, I took on the role as Head of National Studies at JC for one year before taking time away from work to look after my little boy. In my career, I have had experience teaching many subjects such as Psychology, History, and Travel, however, Geography is my main specialism and passion. Outside of school, I spend a lot of time with my husband and little boy. We enjoy exploring Dubai together and taking family trips throughout the school holidays.
