My name is Laura Osman, and I am very excited to be joining the Safa Community as Assistant Headteacher responsible for Key Stage 3.
I have been living and working in Abu Dhabi for the last five years. When not at school, you’ll find me making the most of the wonderful outdoor opportunities we have in the UAE. Over the last few years I have completed two Abu Dhabi marathons, a Tough Mudder and a couple of Spartan races. I look forward to discovering what adventures await in Dubai and hope to start taking part of triathlons.
After working for a Member of Parliament in Westminster for a number of years after graduating with a Politics and International Relations degree, I realised that politics didn’t fulfill my need to make a difference every day, and I decided to turn to the teaching profession. This is by far one of the best decisions have ever made. I trained at the Institute of Education to become a History teacher, and started my career in an outstanding central London school. From a trainee teacher I became Deputy Head of Department, Head of Faculty and eventually Associate Assistant Headteacher responsible for the Gifted and Talented Programme. This was a fantastic opportunity to link our students, mostly from low socioeconomic backgrounds with the top universities both in the UK and overseas. Within this programme I introduced a mentoring programme providing opportunities for the students to have a one-on-one mentor in the world of work they were interested in be it politics, journalism or law. This successful programme is still running today and has ensured many of our students have studied at Oxbridge and many other top organisations. For the last five years I have been working in Abu Dhabi at a private school. I started as the Head of English Social Studies, and in my current role as Assistant Principal I am responsible for the Learning and Teaching across the Secondary phase as well as the academic and pastoral welfare of over 250 students. I have gained a number of qualifications in post including my NPQSL. I am very much looking forward to getting to know you and your children better when I join the Safa Community.
