I am excited to be moving to Safa Community School to join the music department. I have lived in the UAE for many years and am settled in Dubai with my wife and two young children. My wife will be teaching music in the Junior School at SCS.
Music has been the constant throughout my life. I started learning to play instruments as a young child, firstly piano and violin, and later trumpet and guitar. I also sung throughout my childhood before the teenage years struck and a change of direction in to the wonderful world of rock and roll, and jazz. As a pianist I am happy improvising as well as playing from a score. I love working in education and inspiring and enthusing young people with the wonders of music.
Music is for everyone to enrich their lives . It fuels the mind and our creativity. I love working with young people and helping them to find their musical potential.
I started my teaching career in the UK before moving overseas in 2000. I moved to the UAE in 2006 working in Al Ain for a year and then at the British School Al Khubairat in Abu Dhabi for 7 years. After several years in Singapore as Head of Music at Dulwich College I returned to the Emirates and have worked at two other schools in Dubai. Prior to the UAE I also held international music positions in Malaysia, Chile and Thailand. I love working with young people helping them to realise their musical dreams. This has involved devising and delivering exciting lessons on a vast range of musical areas and styles, as well as managing hundreds of concerts and numerous ensembles, establishing instrumental teaching programmes and overseeing many music trips, local and international.
