I am very excited to welcome your child to 5GM for the new academic year at SCS.
My name is Gemma Martin and I am from Largs, Scotland. I am the mother of a little boy called Dylan, who is 2 years old. Reading books is a passion of mine and I love to keep fit in my spare time. As a family, we have rescued 3 cats: Rascal, Rahi and Roxy.
I graduated from Strathclyde University in 2008 with a honours degree in psychology. Then, I completed my postgraduate degree in primary teaching at the same university. I moved to the U.A.E in 2008 and I have loved every minute of my time here. As an approachable, friendly and caring person, the children that I teach are always my priority.
Since graduating, I have experience in teaching all ages across primary. I am extremely proud to be starting my seventh year at SCS, where I have taught Years 5 and 6, been Head of English and now I am embarking on my second year as Head of Year 5. Prior to teaching at SCS, I taught FS children for three years, then in Scotland I taught a Year 2 and Year 3 class. In addition to this, I taught Year 3 at another school in Dubai for two years, where I undertook an ELL support role.
As an educator, I set high expectations for myself as well as the children I teach. My aim as a teacher is to create a classroom atmosphere which nurtures children to take risks in their learning, be inquisitive, ask questions and achieve their best. I look forward to meeting everyone in September and I cannot wait to begin a wonderful learning journey with 5GM.
