I started at SCS in August 2021 as Deputy Headteacher in charge of Secondary Academics having worked at an Outstanding British Curriculum and International school for 13 Years; five of those years as a member of the Senior Leadership team. During this time, I have immersed myself in all aspects of life in school whether this was coaching rugby, taking a recreational football team, taking staff Art lessons or participating in the Duke of Edinburgh International Award expeditions to Hatta in Oman. I have a passion for learning and understanding how our students make progress. I feel proud to be part of the diverse SCS community and now lead the Senior School in our brand new “Hope” building which has opened in September 2022.

About Me

Originally from the historic City of Derry in Northern Ireland I completed my bachelor’s in design at the University of Ulster Belfast in Design for Visual Communication. Following this I moved to Liverpool to study my Post Graduate Certificate in Education where I worked in a specialist Arts college for 5 Years. Moving to Dubai in January 2009 as well as teaching Art and Design as well as Graphic Design I continued to get involved in sport playing football as well as rugby but also furthering my own academic interests by completing a master’s in education with a focus on Special Educational Needs as well as my National Professional Qualification for Headship through the University College London (UCL) in 2019. I have always had a real love for creativity and the Arts, but sport has been something that I’ve always been involved in however with three young children, my appearances on the football pitch or rugby field are few and far between as I now focus on their interests.

My Experience

Having started my teaching career over 17 years ago I have held several roles in school from Head of House, Head of Year 11, Assistant Headteacher in charge of student progress to the Whole School Safeguarding lead. In my earlier years working in Liverpool, I loved the outreach aspect of my job, whether this was teaching adults in the community to getting our students involved in the famous Liverpool Biennale and working with internationally acclaimed artists. As I have progressed in my career as a leader in addition to my work here at SCS I also work with UCL as a ‘Facilitator’ for aspiring Middle and Senior Leaders acquiring their professional qualifications in leadership. It is this aspect of school improvement that I get most joy out of, seeing the potential of a school grow from within. Overseeing Academics here at SCS has allowed me to develop the same approaches with our students so that they have the skills and qualities to be successful in their journey through education and beyond.
