Hi, I’m Emily and I am joining the Humanities Department at SCS where I will teach History. I was born in a small town on the South coast of England but moved to Yorkshire when I was young.
I spent three years studying at the University of Hull, where I achieved a First Class degree in History and Archaeology. I then continued on at the same university to study my PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate in Education) in Secondary History teaching before commencing my teaching career. I have spent the past four years in the UAE, enjoying the sunshine and amazing opportunities we have here. In my spare time I love reading, ice skating and spending time with my two rescue cats: Monty and Mango!
I have been teaching History for the past five years in the British and IB curricula. I spent my first year teaching in the UK and then moved to the UAE where I have been ever since. I started my UAE career at a British school in Sharjah where I held a pastoral position as a Head of Year. I then moved to an IB school in Dubai where I taught MYP Humanities and DP History. Having taught History across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5 in both the UK and the UAE. I feel I have a broad knowledge of both modern and ancient history, although my passion is definitely Ancient Roman History! In my new role at Safa Community School, I hope to inspire a genuine interest and enthusiasm for the subject, in the same way that my teachers inspired me. I strongly believe that ‘History is not a burden on the memory but an illumination of the soul’.
