Ceri Hannon

After graduating from The University of Manchester with a BA (Hons) History degree, I was fortunate to spend a year travelling around the world and volunteer teaching  in Kenya and Cambodia. Upon return to the UK I embarked on my PGCE in Secondary History and began my career teaching in Prestwich, Manchester.  With adventure in my soul, I moved to Dubai in 2008 – and have since had a family and set up home here!

About Me

I am passionate about History education and it is my goal to help the past come to life in my students’ imaginations. I enjoy taking my classes into a space where we can use props and role-play to analyse events, and I enjoy bringing humour to lessons by taking on roles – be it as a Roman governor, or a medieval doctor treating ailments with leeches! Discussion and collaboration are strong parts of my History lessons and I believe that its study is fundamental in helping young people to understand the background to events in the world today, to develop a sense of identity and encourage toleration and respect for cultural variety.

My Experience

Since becoming an expat teacher in the UAE, I have held roles of History Subject Leader and Head of Year 7 at Emirates International School, before progressing to Head of Humanities and Senior Leader at Nord Anglia, British International School in Abu Dhabi. I first joined SCS as a parent of my own two lovely children in 2018, before having the pleasure of working in the SCS Primary Year 6 and Inclusion teams for one year. This has given me a wonderful insight and understanding of the Primary years, and since 2020 I have enjoyed being part of the growing and popular Secondary History department.
