Caitríona Hoy

Hi, I’m Caitriona Hoy from the MFL department where I teach Spanish. I’m Irish, from a city called Limerick in the south west of Ireland. I spent four years studying Spanish and Irish in the University of Limerick, Ireland and then went on to study my PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate in Education) in the University of Manchester, England.

About Me

I spent 2 years studying and working in Spain in two different cities (Alicante & Cadiz) gaining invaluable linguistic and cultural knowledge, and cementing my love for all this hispanic. I have taught in many different places including Spain and England. I have lived in Dubai for 5 years now and have loved every minute of it. In my free time I love travelling and learning about new cultures. I also love foreign films.

My Experience

I joined Safa Community School in September 2018. I have taught in Dubai for 5 years in total. I have also taught in various schools across Manchester and Spain. I am really passionate about language learning and the many benefits it brings, including making you better at your first language, and improving memory. Speaking another language also sets you apart in a now very competitive job market. As a Czech proverb says – You live a new life for every new language you speak. If you know only one language, you live only once.
