I am an experienced English teacher having taught in various countries around the Middle East for the majority of my career.
Originally from South Africa, my sporting background and physical activity play a big part in my day-to-day lifestyle – healthy body, healthy mind. My philosophy in the classroom is to make the content as relatable and relevant for the students and to see the real-world applications of what we do. I try to engage the students in problem-solving to foster an independent mentality and approach, and, where possible, link the underpinning themes of what we do to the real world. I co-head the Model United Nations club which is a new and budding ECA that will build towards becoming an educational pillar within the school, cultivating keen young leaders of tomorrow who are interested in current issues and how to solve them.
I have been teaching for a number of years in Qatar, Saudi Arabia and now Dubai. I specialise in key stage three English while also having a background in sport science. I have been at Safa for many years and am excited to bring a new cohort of students through the Safa ranks. Before moving to Safa I taught English to KS3 in Qatar before moving to Saudi Arabia where I took up a head of department role at a college. Having a background in sports science and being a health and fitness enthusiast I try to incorporate those ideals of discipline and dedication in the classroom.
